Why Do Believers Fast And Pray In This Life?

Do you fast and pray or do you pray fast?

There is power in fasting and praying. Weekly fasting and praying does wonders for our lives. Fasting in general is a biblical practice. But, there are times when we need to fast and pray for specific matters to yield results.

A demon possessed man was delivered by Jesus, when the disciples could not. They were surprised as to why they could not with their level of faith. The response from Jesus reveals the need for fasting and praying to overcome heavy demonic possession, like in this case. Some matters of faith require fasting and praying.

Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.vHowbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Matthew 17:19-21

When do we fast and pray?

Three examples of biblical heroes who fasted and prayed to receive specific results;

1. In Exodus 34:30 Moses face lit up. Forty days and nights he fasted and prayed. We learn Moses also received the pattern for the tabernacle. Let Christ’s light shine in and through you. Receive the pattern for your life so God can fulfil His will through you.

2. An unbeatable army came against Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 20:3-27), called the nation to fast and pray. God destroyed the enemy. Our enemy is not flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:10-20). Our enemy is spiritual evil. Sometimes sickness affects us, fast and pray like Hezekiah to receive healing.

3. Nehemiah 1:4 prayed and fasted concerning rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. Rebuild your life and pray for revival in the church.

We are in the middle of a great revival. It is true sin is increasing, but God’s grace is abounding even more. Many are turning to Christ and receiving their freedom. Now is the time for believers to labour because of the abundant harvest.

We are going to meet the King soon! Maranatha, Praise God and amen!
