With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility
What is power? It is the ability to do something good when we can do good. Power is about authority for good.
How many times have we chosen to not do good when it was in our power?
Oftentimes we look at others and say, they could have done this or that, etc. It’s easy to talk about others.
Yet, at the right time, people need to be accountable for not doing what they are expected of when in power.
Power is the ability to take great responsibility
For e.g. when in a position of power, use it in wisdom. Without partiality and hypocrisy. Peter failed as a chief pastor at one point revealing bias towards Jewish believers. Paul publicly reprimanded him (Galatians 2:7-11).
But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision. Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do. But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.
GAlatians 2:7-11
Wicked Queen Jezebel executed Naboth to seize his land for King Ahab. She could have negotiated wisely, but in her utter wickedness, misused her power. She even controlled king Ahab because he was a weak personality (1 Kings 21).
We see Simon the sorcerer, in Acts 8:9-22, enticed by the power Peter and John wielded in ministry. He was willing to pay money to receive power.
Even after receiving salvation, the stronghold of his past people-pleasing ways overcame him.
Jesus had all the power a human could never imagine. Yet He remained humble and poor in spirit throughout His life. Learn from Jesus to fulfil your great responsibility. The time is now. Maranatha, praise God and amen.
