Backsliding begins in the heart of man

Backsliding first takes place in the heart. The heart experiences an overwhelming, which in turn manifests in action. The fruit reveals the backslidden state and we get to know the person is doing their own will.

Judas loved money. He betrayed Jesus, in the end. His love for money was evident during his walk with Jesus. Often, what we love in the world shows up in our walk with God. Attempting to pull us away deeper into the world or to fulfil a false, deep rooted belief.

And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;

John 13:2

We read that Demas loved the pleasures of the present evil world (2 Timothy 4:10). Demas too, walked in the way of Christ for a while and walked away. The world though evil is alluring if we haven't hated this world from our hearts.

Many disciples walked away realising that the Christian lifestyle was hard (John 6:66). It is. No one said it was easy. The godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution - it is the word of God (2 Timothy 3:12).

Backsliding is overcome when we return to Jesus and stay committed

The backslider is one who first gave their heart to Jesus. Over time Satan fills their heart with evil, leading them to do their own will. Adam and Eve had a happy life, living under the word of God. Till, Satan filled their hearts with a false narrative of life.

When we give our heart to Jesus, we need to stay focused in Him. A good man is satisfied with Jesus. He or she doesn't desire worldliness or pursue their own will.

Only God's love is satisfying. Nothing can ever satisfy us in this world. Our world is heaven, not earth. Jesus is the delight of heaven. Is Jesus your delight? Jesus warned us of being overcharged by this world (Luke 21:34). Let Jesus be your all in all. Maranatha, Praise God and Amen!
