What on earth will the meek inherit?
“Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.” (Matthew 5:5)
The earth belongs to God. We are His people. God’s own heritage. All those who are in Him will inherit the earth, all who belong to God.
Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. (Isaiah 43:4)
It is the will of God that all mankind be saved. Jesus calls out to all Christians to take the burden of Christ which is light. The burden for the salvation of souls for the kingdom of God is for the meek and lowly ones.
Moses was called the meekest man on earth by God. What an honour! Moses had everything to boast about on earth, great education, rich lifestyle, and material pleasures galore in the house of the Pharaoh. Was he humble after 40 years in the palace? Not yet. Remember, he killed an Egyptian. No such thing as a humble murderer. It also reveals he wasn’t poor in spirit. His spirit was charged with selfish passion. He was subject or enslaved to his own passions or ambitions. It was after 80 years that Moses was called the meekest man on earth. 40 years in the palace plus another 40 years herding sheep for Jethro. He understood all earthly pleasures were vanity. He humbled himself to obey Gods word. The next 40 years he led the Israelites on a journey of a lifetime.
All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers. And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. (Deuteronomy 8:1,2)
A humble Moses, obeying the voice of God, led Israel out of Egypt into the wilderness. Great wonders and miracles were performed by God as Moses led Israel to set them on the journey to the promised land of Canaan.
King David, another example of humility. God separated and anointed David to rule Israel. Saul had failed as King. David’s love and devotion to God won the hearts of the people, even his enemies. David won battles like Israel had never seen. When a man humbles himself, God exalts him. It’s not a transaction. It’s the way of God. All things good and beautiful are found in God alone. David could have killed Saul but he did not. Yet Saul pursued him for the kill. Saul was jealous of Davids blessings. He lost all humility and became suicidal. Saul lost his inheritance because of his pride and disobedience. King David went on to become a great King for Israel.
We need to have a mind like Jesus, the epitome of all humility and meekness. Jesus desires we be like Him, meek and lowly.
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:5-11)
As Christians we are called to inherit the earth - the people God brings into our lives. We are honourable earthen vessels for the glory of God.
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. (Psalms 2:8)
The time is fast approaching when Jesus, along with His saints will rule the earth for a 1000 years. Get ready, your redemption draws near.
