Are you in mourning?

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4

When does a person mourn? When there is a loss. A friend dies, someone in the family passes away, joblessness, etc. 

When Lazarus died, Jesus wept. 

Did Jesus weep because Lazarus died? 
Did Jesus weep because everyone cried? 
None of the above.

Jesus wept because of unbelief in Mary and Martha. This family was closer to Jesus we clearly see in the scripture. Yet, when Jesus told them he will rise again. They did not believe Him. Mary would sit at the feet of Jesus, and learn. But when she lost her brother, her heart failed to believe the words of the ONE she loved and worshipped.

Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? John 11:40

Believers and non-believers alike cry for earthly loss. Of course. What really makes us different, as Christians? We mourn for those who are lost in spirit, for those who are dead to Christ.

We are Christians today because of our personal encounter with Jesus. God opened our eyes to see what no man can fathom. We sing, “In Christ alone, all hope is found…”. What are we doing with ALL that HOPE? 

Are we mourning for the unsaved?

Are we mourning for the state of our children? Jesus said, will I find faith on this earth when I come?

When the followers cried for Jesus, He reminded them to cry for their children. 

For us to live is Christ, to die, gain. If our children aren’t walking in the way of the Lord, is there a point crying for them after they are gone? 

David cried for his son, Absalom.
When he heard he died, he got up and moved on with life. 

“The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.” Ecclesiastes 7:4 

Who is a wise man? He builds his house upon a rock (Matthew 7:24). He is a master-builder (1 Corinthians 3:10). He who wins souls is wise (Proverbs 11:30).

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

“As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.” (John‬ ‭17:18‬)

We are called to be like Jesus, to mourn in prayer for those who are lost and need the salvation that only Christ can bring. Our reward and comfort is in Christ alone. He will never leave us comfortless! He will come to us.

Can there be a greater comfort than meeting Jesus, when he comes in the air? Prepare yourself to meet the living God. Prepare to receive His eternal comfort.
