What do we learn from Trees in the Scripture? 2/2
Learn from trees, they are full of beautiful lessons for life.
The Scripture points us to different types of trees -- each of them presenting different spiritual meanings respectively. The story of Adam and Eve began around a single tree in the Garden of Eden. As believers, it is important for us to know and understand what each of them imply. In the previous post, we already learnt about a few trees and their significances. You can find the first part here, if you wish to read.
Here is the second part of the wonderful lessons we learn from trees:
Pomegranate Tree
The fruit of this tree is quite unique and beautiful. The inside of the pomegranate is red in colour. Each seed in the fruit is neatly arranged and stacked together. They don't fall off that easily, unless plucked using force. Spiritually, the fruit of the pomegranate tree refers to living in unity and fellowship. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Psalms 133:1.
The speciality of the city of New Jerusalem is that, it is a city that is compact together like a pomegranate fruit. Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together: Psalms 122:3. To live in this city, we need to first practice living in unity and fellowship here. Red is the colour of blood, and through the Blood of Jesus we receive forgiveness from sins. We are also justified by His Blood. Romans 5:9. The devil is afraid of the blood of Jesus, and therefore we need to always cover ourselves by His Blood.
Palm Tree
The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Psalm 92:12. The Palm tree according to the Scripture, refers to the experience of having a flourishing life. The righteous are compared with the Palm tree. It also refers to the experience of being fruitful in nature. This tree mostly grows in the desert. It grows tall and straight, no stunted growth.
Growing straight refers to growing in the hope of our future, that is, the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. Luke 21:28. The two characteristics we learn from the Palm Tree:
The Fruit is Juicy to taste
A freshly plucked Palm fruit is juicy and sweet to taste. There is water content in the fruit which in turn, adds to its sweet and crunchy taste. During the summer, this fruit deeply satisfies and nourishes the hungry. This is what the Lord also does to the hungry soul. He nourishes and satisfies them with His goodness. For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. Psalm 107:9.
Hard outside, but soft inside
The Date Palm has a hard appearance on the outside, but the inside of the fruit is soft. Similarly, Jesus was hard towards sin on the outside, but was merciful towards the sinner. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. Hebrews 7:25.
Apple Tree
Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth that bare thee. Song of Solomon 8:5. Spiritually, the Apple Tree refers to the experience of being awakened to the love of God. Jesus is compared with the Apple Tree and under His shadow, we find refuge.
As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste. Song of Solomon 2:3.
As followers of Christ, we need to be a source of comfort and relief to the weary. Stay me with flagons, comfort me with apples: for I am sick of love. Song of Solomon 2:5. Just as Jesus was perfect in Love, Holiness, doing the Will of God and Faith, we need to also become perfect like Him. May the Lord help us!
