Treasures of Heaven! (Part-1)

In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble. Proverbs‬ ‭15:6‬

Treasure can be referred to riches, wealth, valuable objects, precious metals and gems; it can also be referred to great character, heritage, children, happiness, family, friendship, etc.

Teachings of Christ about Treasure:

Jesus said, A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. Matthew‬ ‭12:35‬. It’s true! If the heart is good, it will bring forth good things, and if the heart is evil, it’s produce will only be bad, no doubt! When Jesus was on earth, He used to always teach His disciples to be gatherers of riches in heaven. Why?

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; Matthew‬ ‭6:19-20‬ 👍

A person maybe rich not just because of the money and wealth he has amassed; because what would be the use of wealth and possessions if they have been gathered unjustly, isn’t it? Such riches will only be a curse than a blessing to its gatherer. However, if that same person, during his life time, had been of help and comfort to those in need around him, lend support and care to the underprivileged and those in want wherever possible — he/she is undoubtedly rich because of the precious qualities they have! 🙌

Example of the Kingdom of Heaven

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. Matthew‬ ‭13:44‬.

  • The field here refers to the heart. Inside a man’s heart are ambitions, seeking, goals to be fulfilled, plans, ideas etc. In the midst of them all he also seeks as to why he came to earth — what’s his purpose of being here!
  • Treasure here is compared with Jesus. He being the Son of God in heaven, left all glory and majesty and came down to earth in the form of a servant. He came to reconcile us back with God, through His death on the Cross.

As believers, let’s set our affections on things above and not on the things of the earth. Colossians 3:2. The world will one day pass away and the lusts thereof, but all those who do the will of God will abide forever!
