The 4 Safety Measures

God loves sinners; but He hates sin and wickedness.

In the city of Sodom and Gomorrah, the level of iniquity had risen so much so that God had to destroy it. Don’t you think it would have pained God to do so? Ofcourse!! Indeed it would have.

Nevertheless in the same city lived Lot (Abraham’s nephew) and his family, who were witnesses to the increasing ungodliness each passing day. Lot was a just man and thus, before destroying Sodom and Gomorrah, God sent His Angels to rescue him and his family.

Like Lot, we live in a time where ungodliness and corruption is ever increasing. There is peace less ness everywhere. How do you live in such a time? Well, Lot and his family were given four (4) instructions which we need to do as well. Genesis 19:17

  • Escape for thy life
  • Look not behind thee
  • Neither stay thou in all the plain
  • Escape to the mountain.

1. Escape for thy life - It is not God’s desire that any soul should perish. Every soul is precious to Him. At the same time the Lord says, the soul that sins it shall die. Ezekiel 18:20. The Israelites sinned and departed from God; their state was like dry bones. Yet God in His mercy revived them back again.

Prophet Balaam loved the wages of unrighteousness and was prepared to curse Israel just to get those riches because of which he had a miserable ending. Luke 12:15. These are days where God wants us to repent, come back to Him and be saved. There is no profit in gaining the whole world and losing one’s own soul.

2. Look not behind thee - After being saved we should preserve ourselves from backsliding. This means not returning back to the things we’ve forsaken. Sadly, Lot’s wife could not keep that instruction. She looked back and became a pillar of salt. Luke 17:32.

There is no turning back in a Christian life. Turning back is referred to a dog returning back to its own vomit. To be carnally minded is death, therefore don’t forsake the fellowship the Lord has placed you in, but grow in seeking things above which is life and peace.

3. Neither stay thou in all the plain - This refers to not walking to one’s own whims and fancies. A Plain is sweeping landmass that is flat, with not much elevation. The mountain lies just beside it which needs to be scaled. After knowing the truth, we should not aim to live just a plain life, but desire to grow in Him(climb the mountain).

There is another plain where we are supposed to remain — the Plains of Mamre, where God met Abraham. This plain refers to the fellowship God has placed us into. By remaining within the hedge of instructions and laws given to us through His Word, we will be safe.

4. Escape to the Mountain - Mountain refers to a higher standard of life. After finishing with the day’s ministry, Jesus would retire into the mountain and pray whole night. That’s where He derived His strength from. It’s not smooth on a mountain. This means hardships and troubles will come, but overcoming them through prayer will lead us to victory. May God help us.

Be blessed 💕
