Put On Christ, Christian!
What does it mean to put on Christ? Galatians 3:27 says, those who have baptised into Christ have put on Christ. Being baptized into Christ, we are baptized into his death, that as he died and rose again, so we should die unto sin, and walk in newness and holiness of life. Water Baptism is a critical step to enter into the kingdom of God (John 3:5). It is a necessary act of righteousness, as Jesus revealed in practice. The putting on of Christ according to the gospel, consists not in outward imitation, but in a new birth, an entire change. The change enables us to walk in the new man, mortifying the inner workings of the fleshly heart (Colossians 3)This change reflects in our works. It is not works, if we are unchanged in our mind and heart. Then our works will be only outward imitation or religious acts. In Romans 13:12, Paul says, let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. An armour of light? Why do I need an armour? Why is it an armour? We are in a battle, but it isn’t against flesh and blood but against spiritual wickedness, etc. mentioned in Ephesians 6:11.How must we fight? We need to cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)So put on Jesus, don’t give room for fleshly works of darkness to consume your mind and heart, otherwise you’ll end up sinning. Rather, love God in such a way that your works reflect Christ in you, a reality. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. (Romans 13:14)
