Love does not vaunt itself
What does it mean, love does not vaunt itself? To vaunt, means, to claim self praise and glory.
Do you brag about your self(ie) or your deeds?
Love does not vaunt (1 Corinthians 13:4).
How man loves to boast about his ability and successes! Those who love God never boast about anything they've done; they stick to one claim alone which is the glory of God. God alone deserves the glory, honour, power and praise.
Professional social media networks are filled with employees achieving new degrees, promotions, jobs, etc. Many even boast about the good they do to others.
Ministers who stray away from their calling boast about the songs they write and how it touches hearts. They seek feedback from people rather waiting on God after a sermon. They count the souls they think they are saving. Many public ministers boast about their wealth and call it God’s blessing, forgetting what the New Testament ministry is all about (1 Timothy 6:8-9).
What does the Word of God say?
Love does not vaunt itself
Paul encourages us to esteem others better.
“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” (Philippians 2:3)
Jeremiah warns about self-boasting; “Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:”Jeremiah 9:23
But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord. (Jeremiah 9:24)
If there was, at all, anyone who should have boasted, He is Jesus. On earth, He never exercised His power, nor did His own will, despite being equal with the Father. He humbled Himself and did every word of the Father and performed miracles by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus is our example. We need to learn from Him alone.
We were designed for His praise and glory. Let's stay on track and keep up His praise daily in our thinking, speaking and doing. Jesus is coming soon, Praise God and Amen!
