How To Overcome Self Confidence?

A job (money/independence). A little knowledge (life outlook). A little gain in anything of this world can make us self confident. Self confidence is a child of pride. Its seeds sown, focuses on your ability rather than God’s grace.

In school, when you get good marks. You feel worthy.
In college, your talent when appreciated, motivates you.
At the workplace, when you achieve your business goals, get a promotion or hike, you feel on top of the world.

This sense of worth, emotionally triggered motivations and success of this earth is futile.
King Solomon said, it’s all vanity and profitless.
Jesus proved it’s all vanity and profitless.

Samson’s self confidence, playing with Delilah, cost him his eyes and losing his strength. He thought he could “handle her”. Samson knew he was blessed by God physically but did nothing to humble himself spiritually. False confidence or self confidence will make us lose Godly blessings.

So many children too fall for the dating-relationship trap, thinking they can handle it. Only to be left heart broken or in despair.

Faith in Christ will help you overcome self confidence

A little “good” of anything, worldly or spiritual, can be harmful for us if we aren’t rooted in the word of God. Trusting in God helps us place all the credit or glory onto Him.

The burden of recognition is removed when we give God the glory. In its place we receive a peace and joy which rests in Christ alone. While confidence is good to move the needle in life, it turns into evil when it is not founded on faith in Christ.

King Solomon got overconfident. God had blessed him. He went overboard with everything God had given him. Simon the sorcerer thought that he could get the gift of laying on of hands for the Holy Spirit if he paid a good amount to Peter. Another level of false confidence that enters us when our faith isn't founded on the word of God but feelings or self confidence.

Daniel trusted in God's word, in prayer and supplication to Him. He was brilliant and a man of science, but made his decisions acknowledging God in all his ways. Paul, the apostle, was a learned man and knew his way about in the Jewish community - yet he walked according to the leading of the Holy Spirit, not his own confidence.

True freedom is in depending on the perfect word of God.

Be ready, Christ is coming soon. Praise God and Amen.
