How To Follow Jesus In A God Forsaken World?

The most important characteristic of love is denying self. It means keeping in mind and action someone else’s need over yours.

Jesus said, if any man will come after Him, let him;
1. deny himself,
2. and take up his cross,
3. and follow me.
(‭‭Matthew‬ ‭16:24‬)

Denying self doesn’t mean you don’t care for your own needs. It means you build yourself to do what is necessary for the greatest good.

About denying self, Paul writes it beautifully;

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Galatians 2:20

To the Philippians church, he writes;

According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

Philippians 1:20

How to do the greatest good? Follow Jesus

Take up the cross, and follow, Jesus.

We exist because of Jesus. Without a shadow of doubt, He is the only best reason for us to live. His is the only good we need to keep on top of our list. The cross we need to carry is light, in the words of Jesus (Matthew 11:30). What did Christ do? He came to save souls, reconcile man with God. We too, need to do the will of God like Jesus.

It is in following Him all the days of our lives where the battle is. Where we face who we really are as we surrender ourselves for Him to perfect us over time. The only way we can follow Him is through the power of God’s love. In obedience, walking in line with His word.
