Curiosity Can Kill Your Faith
Dinah went out to see the women of the land (Genesis 34:1). Why did she have to go out on her own in a strange land to see the women?
She was curious to see the fashions of the place. She wanted to know what was trending, fashion-wise. Is this a common phenomenon among women? Yes, women check out other women. It's a known fact, and common knowledge.
Dinah's desire drew her away from the safety of her home and people into a world of evil in Shechem.
Teenage girls and young ladies hurt themselves greatly, mentally and emotionally, to fit in with current trends. Body image comparison issues push them even further to get plastic surgery for that perfect selfie or quick online fame.
According to a report by the Mental Health Foundation, among teenagers, 37% felt upset, and 31% felt ashamed about their body image. Just over one-third of adults said they had ever felt anxious (34%) or depressed (35%) because of their body image. One in eight (13%) adults experienced suicidal thoughts or feelings because of concerns about their body image.
These are approx recorded cases. While they aren't accurate, they give us a fair understanding of how widespread the issue is.
- The beauty industry will be worth $800 billion by 2025. Currently valued at $532 billion.
- The fashion industry was $1.7 trillion in 2022
These are astronomical figures!
So, do not discount Dinah's desire or lust for vanity. How is your heart today? Where is your treasure?
Seek the beauty and fashion in the presence of God's majesty. He is beautiful and glorious. His light is marvellous. Shine for Jesus, dear believer.
Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
