7 Fails In The Life Of Peter
Peter, the disciple, is a very relatable biblical person for believers. While Peter turned out to become a great apostle by God's grace, his initial struggles provided good learning.
Let's look at seven fails in Peter's life as a disciple.
DOUBTED GOD
Matthew 15:28-30
He was looking at Jesus and walking on the water, but he got distracted by the storm and began to drown. His little faith that had turned into doubt could not help him finish his journey - until Christ held onto Him. Never doubt God's word. Pray and live by faith. Without faith, we cannot please God. Doubt gives room for unbelief.
BOASTFUL
Mark 14:29-31
Peter boasted about staying faithful till the end. He was sure of his love for Jesus till a trial revealed his false pride.
SLEEPING
Mark 14:37
Peter could not pray for one hour with Jesus. He kept sleeping. Excess sleep or sleeping away during prayer times will keep us unprepared for life ahead.
VIOLENT
John 18:10
Peter cut off Malchus' ear with his sword. How often do we use God's word to hurt or put down others instead of building them up?
AFAR FROM GOD
Luke 22:54
Peter was watching Jesus from afar as He was taken to be crucified. Many are far from God and do not fellowship with their local church when they have the time. Fellowship is key to our walk with God as members of the body of Christ.
MIXED WITH GENTILES
Luke 22:55
Peter sitting with the Gentiles refers to our mixing with friends and family in a way that keeps us in our old natures.
DENIED JESUS
Luke 22:57-62
Peter vehemently denied Jesus. He followed Jesus, did wonders and miracles in Jesus' name, preached repentance, and still denied Jesus.
The righteous may fall, but he will rise. Peter failed many times. But as soon as he received the Holy Spirit, he lived faithfully till the end. He realised he could not live this life on his ideas and strength.
Dear beloved of Jesus, learn from the life of Peter. Let's overcome these natures through the anointing God has given us. Our strength comes from God, the power of the Spirit.
Be filled in the Holy Spirit, awaiting the coming of Jesus. Maranatha, Praise God and Amen.
