Why Every Believer Needs To Stand In The Gap
One of the most powerful investments we make with our time daily is praying for others. In other words, standing in the gap. Instead of getting worked up about how terrible everything is around you, God desires we stand in the gap.
We can get frustrated when we see brothers and sisters in Christ yoked with world and celebrating life carnally. Since they are out of reach, to understand spiritual counsel, what can you do? What can you do as one who loves them dearly?
Stand in the gap in prayer, for your brothers and sisters in Christ - your earthly family, people at work, and your nation, and the world.
When Israel worshipped the golden calf despite seeing great and wondrous works of God, it was Moses who stood in the gap pleading before God. Still they remained ungrateful. Again they yoked themselves in sexual immorality. This time, Phinehas' zeal saved the rest of Israel from God's wrath.
Abraham interceded for Sodom. Moses interceded for Israel. Abigail interceded for Nabal ... the Old Testament and New Testament saints all stood in the gap.
God is looking for believers to stand in the gap
“I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one.
ezekiel 22:30
We are called to stand in the gap for the salvation of mankind. It is God's will for His children to stand in the gap. Job prayed for his friends and God healed him.
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
1 Timothy 2:1-3
