Who is a fool?
“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God....” (Psalms 14:1)
I’ve heard so many young say, “I believe in God, so, I’m not a fool.” They delude themselves by thinking they are Christian because of being born into a Christian family. Even Satan believes in God. In fact, Satan is so sure about Gods Word that he is hell bent on destroying mankind before The Father in Heaven decides to end it all. What does that make him?
Believing requires obeying the word of God, and walking in His will.
Are all Christians, believers? No. Only those who are born again are Christians. But, is being saved once, enough? Are you walking to please God? Are you being led to a deeper knowledge and understanding of His Word and an exemplary walk in Him by faith?
The heart of a man, if not daily sanctified by the truth, is a dead man walking. He is a man without God.
Three state-of-the-heart verses of many believers today reveal how they are living in the “fool” category, rather than in Christ.
Heart without order
“A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.” (Proverbs 18:2)
A Christian who doesn’t wait in the Lord, but chooses to follow his own heart is a man without understanding. He is one who lost the fear of God. He is focused on pleasing himself, and not wait to receive instruction from God. Itching ears that get carried away easily because of the hearts conditioning to worldliness and ungodliness.
Having tasted Christ, I cannot imagine a world today where every man does how his heart feels. We are heading that way, O Jesus come soon!
Heart filled with hate
“He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.” Proverbs 10:18
In an instant world where the spirit of man is easily enraged, hatred and bitterness thrive in their hearts. Pharisaical behaviour that puts on a show outside but full of evil inside - Matthew 23, reveals the heart of a Pharisee. God hates lying. The Christian needs to judge himself regularly to avoid falling into such a state. For many Christians, living the Word feels like a radical transition which burdens them so much that they are unable to surrender their lives to grow in faith. They end up living in hypocrisy and lies, falling into snares that come with their choices.
Heart that mocks at sin
“Foolish people don't care if they sin, but good people want to be forgiven.” Proverbs 14:9
As Christians, we do not take sin lightly because the greatest price was paid to rescue mankind from it. We have a burden for perishing souls and the salvation of mankind. Even the good of the world have the sense to forgive and receive forgiveness. But, the fool is like a man with a seared conscience. Many Christians are ignoring their repetitive sinful natures and gone to the point of no repentance.
A corrupted heart is a hopeless heart. Repentance changes it all. Being in the presence of God, is the only way to avoid living a foolish life. Mistakes happen, but it should not be at the cost of your salvation. Informed choices bring measured results. We always sow what we reap. Let us sow in righteousness and reap eternal life with God.
