Which Seed Of Abraham Are You?
Abraham was known as the Friend of God.What honour this is for a mortal like us to be called as God's friend!!Do you know why he was given this title? Because he believed in God's promise - of giving him an heir, even when he was too old to have his own. And that faith upon God was counted righteousness unto Abraham. We read about this in James 2:23,
And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
In Genesis 15:5, we find how God called him and gave him blessings.
And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
God called Abraham out of Mesopotamia. He didn't know who God was. But he knew that He who called him forth from his father's house was God Himself. Thus, he began his journey by faith.For about 25 years, Abraham and Sarah had no children. But God said your seed will be like the stars of heaven. He gives 2 other promises regarding Abraham's seed. God is unchanging in His promises and covenants. In Genesis 13:16 God promised Abraham,
And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.
And another in Genesis 22:17,
That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
In the New Testament to be of Abraham's seed, we need to be in Christ Jesus. That is what the scripture teaches us in Galatians 3:29
And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Everyone who is born into a Christian home isn't really a Christian. To be a Christian, we need to be born in Christ. St. Paul says,
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17
The blessings of Abraham is given to every true Christian/ the Spiritual Seed. We should be like the Stars of Heaven and not like the Dust of the Earth or Sand upon the Sea Shore. These 3 groups of people are found in the church. Who do they signify?- Stars of Heaven - compared to the spiritual seed. They are the seed of Abraham through Issac. Issac is a type of Jesus Christ. When we accept Jesus as our personal Saviour, we come under the Promised Generation. To be the stars of heaven we need to be saved, obey God in water baptism and receive the Anointing of the Holy Spirit.- Dust of the Earth refers to the descendants of Ishmael, the countries in the Middle East. They too are the seed of Abraham.- Sand upon the Seashore refers to the carnal generation. They also are the seed of Abraham. But their seeking God is only limited to their needs of the flesh.(....to be continued..)
