What Happens When Love Is Shed Abroad In Our Heartsđź’–?

At some point, I’m sure you would have thought about this question! 🙂 What exactly then, does it mean to have God’s love shed abroad into our hearts? Here you go:

And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Romans‬ ‭5:5‬.

Helps us to keep His commandments — It isn’t enough to just say Jesus, I love you! Instead, we will know that we really love Jesus, only when we obey His commandments. Obedience to God’s Word is key to loving God wholly. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 1 John‬ ‭5:3‬; John 15:10.

Obey His Voice & Cleave to Him — We did not choose Christ, but His love came in search of us and saved us from the drudgery of sin ❤️ It’s now our turn to choose to love Christ back by obeying Him. In the Scriptures, the word cleave has been used in context of a husband and a wife. Genesis 2:24. From this we gather, that it is Love alone that will help us to obey His voice and cleave to Him. Deuteronomy 30:20.

Helps us Walk in All His Ways — When God’s love is shed abroad into our hearts, it will help us walk in all the ways of God. Deuteronomy 11:22. Joshua, while addressing the Reubenites, Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh asks them to take diligent heed concerning this matter. Joshua 22:5.

Helps us live — This means that, to just have the tag of a believer/follower of Christ, isn’t enough. To live, as in, as a recipient of His blessing, we need His love in our heart. Moreover the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live. Deuteronomy‬ ‭30:6‬.

Helps us hate evil — There is no place for evil with God neither in the dwelling place of God. Nevertheless, we who are living in a world full of sin and evil, can overcome this only through Love. Ye that love the Lord, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked. Psalms‬ ‭97:10‬. Abstain from all appearance of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:22.

Helps us love our neighbour — This is the second Royal Law of Love given to a New Testament Saint, the other being — Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength. Mathew 22:37-39. Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. John‬ ‭13:1‬.

Helps us to serve — God’s love when shed abroad in our hearts will help us serve Him. This is what God desires from all His servants. And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, Deuteronomy‬ ‭10:12‬. There is blessing in serving God. May the Lord help us!

Be blessedđź’•
