What Does True Freedom Look Like?
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32)
It’s impossible to not live a purpose driven life, once you know the truth.
Doubts are a result of a lack of clarity or conviction. Life is a horrible journey when you don’t know Why you are here, Who you belong to, What is it that you need to do.
The truth eliminates every doubt. It sets you free to follow the correct way. To walk in the light of God, who created you. It frees, separating you from the darkness into the marvelous light.
Jesus said, I am the way, the truth and the life. Jesus said, He is the only way to the Father in heaven. All those who come to Jesus are set free. Free from anxiety, depression, loneliness, boredom, and everything that drains your zest for life.
I want to share three examples to reveal the radical freedom the truth brings into a person’s life.
From Murderer to Apostle
Paul the apostle, was a murderer of Christians before he met Jesus. He believed in the lies of his religion and slaughtered humans for a living. He was blinded with a lust to destroy anyone who preached Christ. He thought he was living with purpose, his truth was a lie. He was in darkness, he did not know what he was doing. When he met Jesus, everything about him changed - his passion turned to compassion; his hatred turned to love; his violence turned to a life of servitude; faithfully finishing his race, fulfilling the will of God in his life.
From Darkness to Light
The Ethiopian Eunuch (Acts 8:26-39), after he heard the gospel from Philip (the evangelist), went away rejoicing. Here was a man of great authority in the service of a Queen. He was reading the Book of Isaiah. The angel of God directed Philip to take the road in which this Eunuch was traveling. The Eunuch was eager to understand what he was reading. The gospel transformed his mind, he accepted Jesus Christ as Lord of his life. He also took water baptism having noticed a pool by the side of the road. He left rejoicing!
What does freedom sound like? There is a rejoicing, great joy, a happiness that is heavenly, not of this earth. All those whose eyes are opened to the truth of the gospel have a radical change of heart.
Seek And Ye Shall Find
Another brilliant example of a man who found freedom through the truth of God’s Word was Cornelius. I had written about him earlier as well, you can read it here. Cornelius' example is inspiring because of his sense of devotion and diligence in seeking who the true God is. Most people give up too easily; not Cornelius or his household. A remarkable man of authority, a centurion, who was loved by all, a man of good report. Peter was supernaturally called upon to share the gospel with Cornelius' household. As Peter shared the Word of God, they not only received Jesus into their hearts, they received a mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit as well.
God is available to those who seek Him. All those who seek the truth, in patience and goodness, will always find Jesus (The Truth).
Dear Reader, if you haven’t experienced the love of God, I’d encourage you to seek Christ.
So if the Son (Jesus) makes you free, then you are unquestionably free. (John 8:36)
