Never hold on to the things of this world
If you hold on to the things of this world, you will be afraid of death.
Are you ready to die for Jesus? Are you afraid of death? If you are afraid of death then you are not ready to die for Jesus.
When is a believer afraid to die? When he has his heart attached to someone or something of this world. He does not want to lose the person or that particular pride of life (job, land, etc.), or even secret sin.
There is nothing to live for in this world.
“Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher. “Vanity of vanities! All [that is done without God’s guidance] is vanity [futile, meaningless—a wisp of smoke, a vapor that vanishes, merely chasing the wind].” Ecclesiastes 1:2
The things of this world are unprofitable
There is no profit in labouring for this life (Ecclesiastes 1:3). It’s hopeless. Labouring for this life is burdensome. The words of this life lack strength, is weak. Man can never be satisfied. There is nothing new or worth remembering about, of this life (Ecclesiastes 1:8-11).
The thrill of self-promotion and achievement is a carnal, an 'old man' struggle in a new (man) believers life. The world thrives on self improvement. Believers thrive in Christ likeness. Denying self and putting on Jesus, daily. There are believers who are afraid of death because of secret sins.
A young boy, after attending a funeral service, confessed, "every time I attend a service, I get scared." He later confessed, the guilt of persisting secret sin troubles him, makes him fear death.
The fear of death reveals a lack of love for God. Only perfect love casts out fear. The love of God shed abroad in our hearts can alone enable us to overcome the fears we need to face in life.
Let’s surrender ourselves daily to put on Christ and live for Him alone. Maranatha, Praise God and Amen!
