Is Divine Healing biblical?

Divine healing has become a controversial topic for those who once believed. How did this happen? Is divine healing the will of God? What does the scripture say?

For every question of life, we need to turn to the instruction book of our spiritual life.

  1. Jesus preached the gospel and healed all manner of disease and sickness (Matthew 4:23). What is a prerequisite to receiving healing? Submitting to the gospel - the almighty Word of the living God. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. Those who accept the Word of God will believe that Jesus heals all without the need for modern medicine and its enslaving and manipulative practices.

  2. By His stripes, we are healed (Isaiah 53:4-10). The blood of Jesus is all-powerful to wash our sins and bring us healing. Healing by the blood is not only spiritual but also physical.

  3. Divine healing is children's (believers) bread (Matthew 15:26). A gentile woman, a non-believer, recognised the power of healing that Jesus drew from God. She boldly and humbly received healing for her daughter.

The above three verses are sufficient to establish that it is a matter of faith and trust in the One perfect healer.

3 things the church needs to work on urgently about the doctrine of divine healing is;

  1. Back it with fervent prayer as a church. What's the foundation of a fervent prayer ministry? Love. While God's love is sufficient for the believer to trust and receive healing, coming together as a church in prayer moves God into action. Many old believers boast about the love and care they received from their respective hospitals. For some, it's become a natural conversational topic. Some even argue about which hospital or doctor is better.

  2. Many have fallen prey to the marketing and communication tactics used by the health industry via all kinds of Media. The constant bombardment of health news has driven fear into the hearts of believers. Believers must spend quality time in prayer and word rather than on social media and news.

  3. Many believers live in self-condemnation and guilt after relying on doctors. They are unable to recover from it and resort to a life of enslavement to the whims and fancies of modern medicine. Without a true understanding of God's love and power, we cannot overcome these foul spirits. Believing in the gospel is essential to overcome foul spirits and receive healing.

Finally, as a church, we cannot sympathise with unbelief. Jesus wept because of unbelief in the believers. Unbelief is a sin. We cannot sympathise with sin. Sadly, many believers prefer a diluted version of God and end up idolising their children or parents, which leads to spiritual compromises.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE TRUST IN THE LORD FOR HEALING?

  1. We overcome the fear of death.

  2. We receive forgiveness of sins.

  3. Healing is not only physical but spiritual as well.

We are in the last days. Every saint is challenged by one spiritual problem or the other. The need of the hour is to come together in the true fellowship of the Holy Spirit and pray for one another.

May God give us grace in these last days.

Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
