Honouring Your Parents

Do you know how to honour your father and mother? Do you honour them like the worldly people do, or are you honouring them differently?

The Bible instructs children to obey their parents (Ephesians 6:1-3). Also, to treat elders respectfully. Even worldly children know how to ‘outwardly’ honour their parents.

A child of God honours his parents in a completely new way. Why? It is because he is a new creation.

HOW TO HONOUR YOUR PARENTS?

  1. Obey God's word (Proverbs 6:20). Love God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength. Loving God is the greatest commandment. Love produces obedience that pleases God and brings honour to parents.

  2. Follow biblical instructions. Our lifestyle, rooted in God's word, will be a sweet savour to God and our parents.

  3. Keep the Word in your heart (Proverbs 6:21). When we overcome sin, we honour our parents. King David realised the only way to overcome sin was by hiding God's word in his heart. (Psalms 119:9-11)

  4. Receive correction joyfully (Proverbs 1:8). Appollos took correction well, and his ministry became blessed.

  5. Care for parents when they are old (Proverbs 23:22). Not only your own but others too (as much as possible).

Many conservative Pentecostal believers have no idea about the need for God's word, how it affects every area of their lives, and why there's no life without Jesus.

It sets a dangerous precedent for future life decisions. Families get broken, and spiritual life crumbles at a faster rate.

Our rest and hope for all things is Jesus. Let's look at Him for all things under the guidance of the Spirit. He will provide.

Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
