How thirsty are we really for God?

Dear friend, how thirsty are you for God?

King David loved God in a way that he was always thirsting for Him. Going through the book of Psalms what we most assuredly find is that David had the Lord always before him. He loved God dearly.

I can boldly tell you - this world can never satisfy us because the water it has to offer will make us thirst again and again. Looking to the woman at the well in Samaria, see what Jesus said:

Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:13,14. Here, Jesus was referring to quenching ones thirst through the Holy Spirit - well of water springing up into everlasting life.

David compares his thirst with 3 things:

To a dry and thirsty Land

Have you come across a very dry and parched ground with no water content? Well, if you have, try pouring a cup of water and see what happens. The water soaks into the ground within seconds, and looks as dry as it was before.

King David says that he was thirsty for God exactly like this! O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; Psalms 63:1.

Thirsty for God like a Deer

As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, God. Psalms 42:1 NASB.

You know, it is said about the deer that in order to run and be safe, this animal mostly stays close to water and keeps itself hydrated. Suppose it strayed away from water and begins to feel thirsty, its hooves begin to widen causing the animal to be in pain. In such a condition, the deer cannot run fast when a predator approaches. Chances are it will easily fall prey into the predator's hands. For this reason, the deer must remain always close to water.

David was thirsty for God like this animal. He says, My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God? Psalms 42:2 NASB.

Thirsty for God like a Pelican

I resemble a pelican of the wilderness; I have become like an owl of the ruins. Psalms 102:6 NASB.

The Pelican is a bird with a long bill. When this bird flies around in the desert area and is unable to drink from the little water that is available, it looks to the heavens and gathers rain water in the pouch beneath its beak. This way it satisfies itself and gets ready for the next flight. King David compares his thirst for the Lord with this bird likewise.

We have come to the last days. Let us examine our own lives and see what have been eating and drinking on, to replenish our soul. Let us desire to thirst for God like David and prepare to meet our Saviour. May the Lord help us.

Be blessed! 💕
