Why does the Lord help His people? Part-1
Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper. Psalms 30:10
Allow me to take you straight into the topic — Just as the headline of this post suggests, who then are these 6 types of people, for whom the Lord is a help!!
The poor and needy
Here, the poor does not refer to those who are impoverished or financially low. Rather, it refers to those who are poor in their spirit, to those who are afflicted and brought low. The Lord helps the poor and needy by stretching out His helping hand. But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God. Psalms 40:17. The Lord preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me. Psalms 116:6
Those who trust Him
Those who trust Him daily — during their good and bad times, are helped by God. It’s easy to trust God when everything is fine; but when things take a turn, that’s when trusting God becomes difficult. But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him. Psalms 37:39-40.
Those who take refuge in Him
Two things to remember here:
- Don’t take refuge in man because that will definitely fail us one day — I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul. Psalms 142:4.
- Don’t take refuge in falsehood nor be concealed in deception — Because you have said, We have made a covenant with death, And with Sheol (the place of the dead) we have made an agreement, When the overwhelming scourge passes by, it will not reach us, For we have made lies our refuge and we have concealed ourselves in deception. Isaiah 28:15
However, those who learn and practice to take refuge in God alone, early on in life, will surely go from strength to strength. The Lord keeps His word and does not change like man.
