Elijah, the Prophet

Elijah was as human as we are (James 5:17). A mighty prophet God used to draw Israel back to God. What lessons can we learn from his life?

HE WAS A MAN OF FAITH

God did mighty works through Elijah because he stood by faith. Like Stephen (Acts 6:8), signs and wonders followed his life as God saw fit to stir Israel.

HE STOOD BEFORE GOD

Elijah stood before God and served Him (1 Kings 17:1). Who can stand before God? (Psalms 15:1/24:3). No liar or deceived can stand before God (Psalms 101:7) (Jude 24)

A LIFE OF PRAYER AND HOLINESS

Elijah hid in Brook Cherith (1 Kings 17:3). Cherith means cutting or separation. He obeyed God and remained hidden in Him during a time of trouble. While Israel lived in evil, he stayed in the presence of God.

WILLINGNESS TO SUFFER

He had a mind of suffering. It resulted in God providing for him in time of need at the brook and Zarephath (1 Kings 17:4). Brook to Zarephath (1 Kings 17:7-9)

HOPED IN THE POWER OF RESURRECTION

In the middle of all the suffering, he was blamed by the mother of a child who died. He did not lose hope for her sake. He prayed and sought God to bring the child back to life. God answered him as requested (1 Kings 17:17)

If God can use Elijah so mightily, He will do the same with us. He was just like us. Dear believer, put on Christ. Live for Him.

Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
