Do You Have The Mind Of Christ?
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Philippians 2:5
What does it mean to have the mind of Christ?
It means to have the mind of humility that is found in Christ Jesus. All those of us who desire and do follow Jesus, must be adorned with this mind of humility so that the mind of Christ becomes a part of our lives as well.
This was what St.Paul boldly confessed to the Corinthian Church — that he had the mind of Christ, meaning, the experience of Christ’s humility in him, which he also desired the Corinthian church to have. 1 Corinthians 2:16.
How can we get the mind of Christ in us?
Through the anointing of the Holy Spirit. When the power of the Holy Spirit works in us, our mind begins to become a spiritual mind, bringing forth life and peace - For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Romans 8:6. The more we allow the Holy Spirit to have His work in us, the more we will be spiritually minded which in turn results in giving life and peace to people around us.
Making ourselves of no reputation. This is the second aspect of having the mind of Christ. Jesus made Himself of no reputation; and this is the beginning of having Christ’s mind in a person’s life.
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: Philippians 2:6-7
Honestly speaking, it is every person’s innate desire to achieve some popularity as long as they live. We all want to be remembered in some way. People name streets, houses, monuments, gardens etc after their names. Some desire to be rich and wealthy and thereby acquire name and fame for themselves 🙂 Well, it’s human to have these fleshly natures.
But the divine character of Christ was that He made Himself of no reputation and took upon Himself the form of a servant. As believers, we also should forsake and destroy the desire for name, fame, reputation and popularity for ourselves through the Spirit of God. These (unclean natures) are like kings which want to rule our inner man and subdue God’s work in us. We need to mortify these deeds of the flesh through the Spirit, then God’s mercy will remain upon us.
In the Scriptures, the people building the Tower of Babel wanted to build a city and a tower whose top would reach the heaven. Scripture clearly states they did that for their own name. Genesis 11:4. They also did not want to be scattered upon the face of the earth. But unfortunately, their cause wasn’t pleasing to God and thus, were scattered across the face of the earth.
When Jesus did not do anything for His own name, God the Father honoured Him with a name above all names. Philippians 2:9. For every overcomer, a new name has been kept by God for them. Revelation 2:17. Let’s work towards achieving what God desires of us so that we become a blessing for everyone He has placed in our lives. Let God honour us.
Be blessed 💕
