Can We Do Without Fasting?
And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: Daniel 9:3
Fasting and praying is very important for us. Daniel humbled himself before God, took fasting and prayed because the days during which he lived were evil. The days that we now live in, are also evil and it seems to be increasing by the day.
Jesus, even though He was the Son of God, fasted and prayed before going about doing good to people. He overcame the devil through fasting and praying. And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. Mark 9:28-29
The Pharisees were very boastful about religiously following the laws of God in every bit of the word. For example, of the two men who went to the temple of God to pray, we see the Pharisee bragging to God about fasting twice a week and giving tithes of all that he had. Luke 18:12 — he was not justified in God’s presence because he justified himself, he was self righteous.
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:20.
This means to enter the kingdom of God, we, the New Testament children of God must exceed the righteousness of the Pharisees and Scribes; that is follow God’s Word not traditionally but spiritually, in the spirit of the letter. Fast and pray more than the Pharisees did.
May the Lord help us all! 🙏
