7 Reasons Every Believer Prays For The Government
Any believer who speaks against the government is sinning against God. The word of God is explicit about this matter in Romans 13:1-7. (Check these verses at the end of the article).
Believers in the right positions and God-given aptitude, in the world, can raise issues or plead in case a law is outside of common, and sound reasoning.
What the believer must definitely do is, pray for all the leaders and those who influence the laws.
1. Every person needs to be subject to the governing authorities. It is the word of God.
2. God has placed them in their high positions.
3. When we resist authorities we resist the ordinance of God. Yet, keep in mind that our resisting authorities is only allowed if the law violates scripture (Acts 5:29)
4. We bring trouble on ourselves when we go against them. God won't help us till we repent.
5. They are for our good. We need to stay good - in the right side of the law***.
6. A government authority is God’s servant. Deal with them lovingly.
7. Be subject as a matter of principle, keep a clear conscience before God and man.
Pray for the people in government
How many times have we thought against the leaders? Even corporate leaders. A child of God needs to reflect Christ in his daily walk. It requires meditation of the word of God day and night.
***An exception is made only when the law goes against the word of God, and affects us directly. For e.g. we can look at two instances in the Bible, one with Shadrach, Meschech and Abednego, the other with Daniel.
In the case of Shadrach, Meschech and Abednego, they were asked to bow before an image, they refused. The King ordered they be thrown into the fire. They escaped miraculously. In the case of Daniel, another prayer warrior, he was thrown into the den of lions for praying in his own house. He too escaped because he trusted in God. All four had one thing in common, they had a prayer life. Stephen and the apostles were put in jail often, and killed for preaching the truth. Yet, they never went against the authorities like we see 'so called Christians' today.
Be responsible citizens of Heaven
God did not bring us into the marvellous light for us to stay in darkness. This may seem harder in the coming days, let’s look at Jesus and do all we can for Him. Only believers know the power in prayer. Not everyone exercises it. Time to change how we approach this life - trust God to work miracles. Also, learn to discern the times as He guides us through the Holy Spirit.
Let’s exhibit the fruit of the Spirit in our lives for the glory of God. Maranatha, Praise God and Amen.
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God [granted by His permission and sanction], and those which exist have been put in place by God. 2 Therefore whoever [a]resists [governmental] authority resists the ordinance of God. And those who have resisted it will bring judgment (civil penalty) on themselves. 3 For [civil] authorities are not a source of fear for [people of] good behavior, but for [those who do] evil. Do you want to be unafraid of authority? Do what is good and you will receive approval and commendation. 4 For he is God’s servant to you for good. But if you do wrong, [you should] be afraid; for he does not carry the [executioner’s] sword for nothing. He is God’s servant, an avenger who brings punishment on the wrongdoer.
5 Therefore one must be subject [to civil authorities], not only to escape the punishment [that comes with wrongdoing], but also as a matter of principle [knowing what is right before God].
6 For this same reason you pay taxes, for civil authorities are God’s servants, devoting themselves to governance. 7 Pay to all what is due: tax to whom tax is due, customs to whom customs, respect to whom respect, honor to whom honor.
