What Does It Mean To Be His People?

Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever. Psalms‬ ‭28:9‬

In this verse, King David is praying for the people of God by asking God to lift them up forever. For this to happen, firstly God has to save His people. The Lord desires that we become HIS PEOPLE. In the Hebrew tongue, the word “people” is referred to AM which has 3 different meanings:

  • People — We become His sheep/flock
  • People — We become a soldier in His army
  • People — We become His servants

Whom the Lord of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance. Isaiah‬ ‭19:25‬

As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved. Romans‬ ‭9:25‬

The above verse also refers to Egypt, who was once a stranger to God. Israel is His Inheritance and Egypt is His people. Once upon a time we were Egypt - complete strangers to God. Nevertheless, His eyes of mercy fell upon us, saved us and made us His people. Jesus came into this world to save sinners.

He didn’t forsake us in the pathetic state of sin that we were in. He chose to give away His life for you and me, and reconcile us back to God. Therefore, according to His eternal plan and purpose, since He foresaw us from before, He redeemed us by His blood and purchased us as His own. HE SAVED AND MADE US HIS PEOPLE.

Now He is coming back again to take us away to the place He is preparing for us. Prepare yourself to meet Jesus! May God help us.

Be blessed 💕
