The 3 Types Of Calling!

Apostle Peter in his letter to the believers is laying emphasis on being diligent about making their Calling and election sure. 2 Peter 1:10.

God, according to His eternal plan and purpose regarding each of us, granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness. Why? So that we become partakers of the divine nature, by escaping the destructive lust that is in the world. He goes on to say that by doing these things, ye shall never fall.

As followers/disciples of Christ, we have also been called by God — to proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvellous light. 2 Peter 1:9. This is our Calling and everyone who loves Jesus should at least have a basic understanding about what our Calling is.

OUR CALLING IS OF 3 TYPES:

• High Calling
• Holy Calling
• Heavenly Calling

1. High Calling - In Christ Jesus, God the Father has called us with a high Calling. This implies being earthly minded/ being carnal, should not be found in us.

I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians‬ ‭3:14‬

God called us with a high Calling because we are going to inherit the highest place in heaven. Jesus has already achieved this, having lived in this world and also having overcome it - Jesus ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things. Ephesians‬ ‭4:10‬. Therefore, let this knowledge of high calling always be in our minds — that we are heavenly citizens and not of the earth. Philippians 3:20.

2. Holy Calling - He called us not because we were good or worthy of His Calling. He called us because of His own purpose and grace.

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 2 Timothy‬ ‭1:9‬

The purpose of this Holy Calling is to make weak and sinful people like you and me, become holy as He is. Holiness does not only refer to not defiling ourselves, it means not keeping any bitterness, enmity or anger in our heart. In short, holiness means to become like Jesus.

3. Heavenly Calling - Those who are partakers of the Heavenly Calling should always keep their eyes on Jesus.

Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭3:1

Why did God call us with a Heavenly Calling? To be with Him in Eternity, in Heaven. When we were yet in sins, God quickened us together with Christ. He also raised us and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:5,6. Therefore we need to be in unity with God and His people.

The Eternal purpose of God is to gather together in Him - both which are in heaven and earth; even in Him. Ephesians 1;10.
