Part 1/3: Who is an Amalekite?

The Israelites, during their wilderness journey, had to face a group of people or rather a tribe called the Amalekites. They were a wicked group of people. They always fought. Their intent was to war and take away people as hostages.

The Lord had promised the Israelites that He would fight the battle against this particular tribe. It was the Lord's war. The Amalekites were after these poor Israelites right from the beginning of their journey.

And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah–nissi: For he said, Because the Lord hath sworn that the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation. Exodus 17:15‭-‬16

Now, after covering quite some distance, the Israelites had begun complaining against Moses because there was no water to drink. God provided them with water and so they stopped by to drink. They were tired and thirsty.

WHO IS THIS AMALEK?

Genesis 36:12 - He was the descendant of Esau - And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz Esau's son; and she bare to Eliphaz Amalek: these were the sons of Adah Esau's wife. Spiritually, the spirit of Amalek refers to the lust of the flesh.

As soon as they had finished drinking and were preparing to resume their journey, the Amalekites attacked them once again. We see this event happening in Exodus 17:8 -Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

Even though the Israelites faced the Amalekites literally, in the Old Testament period, we the New Testament Israelites, do also face the spirit of Amalek every single day of our lives.

We need to gird ourselves, still more firmly to fight against this enemy. It's the Lord's battle and He will fight for us, He has promised us.

Hang on, to know more about the spirit of Amalek and how they fight against us.
