Love the Word and Reap its benefits

Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. Psalms 119:9

The above mentioned verse encourages me immensely whenever I come across it 😌

A psalm written by King David, it displays the cry of his heart for the youth. David had encountered the problems that youth face, when he was a young man himself.

God had anointed him as king of Israel after the death of king Saul. David was doing a wonderful job of being a great king. But somewhere deep down, he let loose a portion of his heart to just run around wildly.

He committed adultery by lusting after another man's wife - Bathsheba. Not only did king David marry her but he also got her husband killed by his trusted warrior. Even more shocking, Bathsheba was already pregnant with David's child.

God was utterly displeased with David. So He sent prophet Nathan to David to help him understand the grave sin he had committed. David was quick to realise his blunder before God and immediately began repenting for his sin. The child was a product of an illicit relationship, so God had to take away the child as a punishment against David.

These are days when the youth are led into deception, cleverly and subtly - as a sheep led to slaughter. Every information they need is available digitally, with just a stroke of a button or a swipe. Living a life of holiness with discipline is difficult these days, unless consciously decided. Man is drinking sin like water and lowering himself down to the pits of hell, every passing day.

So how will our children survive during such difficult times? How will they be worthy to meet their Creator if their life isn't right in His sight?

As parents it's high time that we be on our knees and cry for our children. The young need to be taught to love the Word of God. King David later prays -

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalms 119:11

I would urge you to teach your children to love and learn God's Word. Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it - Proverbs 22:6. His Word will in turn keep them from falling in the snares of sin and evil. May the Lord help us.
