How To Receive The Capacity To Love?

To love, we need the capacity to love.

When we try to love, we fail. We realise our love is not enough, it’s inadequate and insufficient. The need is greater than what we can give.

When we look around the world, all we see is pain and suffering. Sometimes it’s burdening because we dwell too long on the fact that the world is getting worse. Despite all the increased collective intelligence, life isn’t getting better for the majority. Mental health concerns have only heightened, destroying more people at a faster rate.

Yet, amidst all of this God’s loving kindness shines through. When we go boldly to the throne of grace, we receive our mercy for grace in time of need (Hebrews 4:16). It’s truly amazing that God did not deal with us according to our sins (Psalms 103:10), it’s His great mercy we are not consumed (Lamentations 3:22).

God is kind even to the unthankful and evil. We cannot even begin to think of such great love.

“But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.” (Luke‬ ‭6:35‬)

How to receive this mercy and capacity to love?

1. Fear God. When we fear God, He transforms our spirit, soul and body. We receive divine natures that produce godly fruit (Psalms 103:11).

2. Be merciful. Knowing God had mercy on us, we need to forgive and show mercy no matter what anyone has done to us (Luke 6:36).

3. Look to Jesus. Jesus our high priest is our only true hope; and when we look to Him, He is able to work in and through us (Hebrews 4:15)

Stay focused on your journey that God has laid out for you. Stop looking at others, their successes or failures. Look at Jesus the author and finisher of your faith. When we look at Him, and stay fixed on Him, He will pick us up when He comes for His bride.

Maranatha, Praise God and Amen.
