How To Live When You Are Young?

How young are you? Why is it good for a man to bear yoke in his youth? (Lamentations 3:27).

When we are young our curiosity levels are at an all time high. The desire for knowledge and passion for the things we love are powerful forces inside of us.

Born in sin, our slavery is to the things of the flesh and therefore our interests are aligned with the lusts of the flesh, the lusts of the eyes and the pride of life. When we invest our time and effort on carnal and worldly things we end up building a poor foundation for our spiritual life in the future.

The wise King Solomon counsels, to remember God when we are young (Ecclesiastes 12:1). Both spiritually and physically we must be found rooting and grounding ourselves in God so we can stay faithful till the end.

Our familiarity with sin has inclined us more to worldliness which leads to ungodliness. Believers who have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit need to break out of the older man and put on the new man in Jesus Christ.

What happens when we waste our young lives?

1. Shame and confusion covers us

We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the Lord our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God. (Jeremiah 3:25)

2. Provoke God with the work of our hands

For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only done evil before me from their youth: for the children of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith the Lord.(Jeremiah 32:30)

3. Remain in our former state of religiosity and self righteousness

Moab hath been at ease from his youth, and he hath settled on his lees, and hath not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed. (Jeremiah 48:11)

It takes dedication and commitment to ensure a diligent walk with God. Dedication and commitment for God's work can happen only with humility and being poor in spirit. Now is still a good time to begin; prepare yourself to meet Jesus in the air. Maranatha, Praise God and Amen!
