I am a debtor of God's love

Some boast about not having any debt or not having to borrow any money from others. While it's a good thing, we find non-believers living with that same principle.

What differentiates us from non-believers?

We are debtors of God's love (Romans 1:14). We are debtors to everyone in our lives now that we have received God's amazing love.

Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles. I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Romans 1:13-16

Four fruits of living like a debtor of God's love

  1. We will easily forgive others as God forgave us (Matthew 6:12)
  2. Giving from our material or financial abundance becomes normal (Romans 15:27)
  3. We begin fulfilling our debt by sowing in the Spirit (Romans 8:11-13)
  4. Preaching the gospel of love will be an overflow of God's abundant love poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. Not personal effort. (Romans 1:15) (Romans 5:5)

It does feel good to enjoy living off of your labour without having to depend on anyone. You feel proud of yourself. Sadly, when the glory doesn't go to God, it turns into a burden in the long run. The weight of pride is soul-crushing.

Live like a debtor every day then Jesus will fulfil the debt in time, as you stay faithful in Him. "Love others as I have loved you" is the only way to live this life in Christ.

How is the state of a person in financial debt? They are troubled, worried and losing hope with each passing day. He labours daily, over-time, and meets those financial needs.

How will you find a debtor of God's love? Labouring over-time to bring Jesus to the world. Fervently praying, zealous to do good works according to God's will. Not falling for worldly narratives that divide, but grow in the truth of God's word in love.

Prepare yourself to meet Jesus. Praise God, and Amen.
