How Dangerous Can Curiosity Get?

Curiosity is good as long as it stays within the boundaries of the Word of God. When we entertain thoughts or feelings that do not fall in line with God’s word, we end up in confusion and rush towards delusion.

Knowing God's word becomes essential, not simply some ritualistic exercise. Like the body needs food, the spirit needs the word of God.

There are various reasons why people get curious. A few examples help us understand the consequences of excess curiosity.

CURIOSITY CAN MAKE YOU FORGET THE SERIOUSNESS OF GOD'S WORD.

Eve got so engrossed in her conversation with Satan that she forgot God’s word or the seriousness of it. It cost her eternal life. She got trapped in a world of sin and fleshly corruption.

CURIOSITY CAN CARRY YOU OUT OF GOD'S PRESENCE.

Dinah’s desire to know about the women in Shechem led to rape, deceit and murders. She could have avoided the series of disasters had she stayed obedient to the wisdom of her time. She ignored God’s word, which led her out of the fellowship of God’s people.

CURIOSITY CAN DESTROY YOUR LIFE ALTOGETHER.

Lot’s wife could not let go of her past lifestyle. Everything she lived for and built for herself was burning behind her. Her love for vanity drove her curiosity to look behind. She immediately turned into a pillar of salt.

None of these examples are a result of some sudden reaction. Our negative curiosity is built over time due to a consistent neglect of God's word. Eventually, the weight of curiosity gets hard to bear because we did not put the Word of God into practice.

Be curious to learn and know God closely. Knowledge is good, but love is best. When we desire to love like Jesus, wisdom and knowledge flow from heaven into our hearts.

Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
