God’s Position, Not Yours
Do positions matter in church when leaders are ordained by God to do His will?
Paul received salvation much later than the apostles. He was mercilessly getting Christ's followers killed as the Holy Spirit raised many for God's glory. An encounter with Jesus transformed him. After he had been saved, he waited three years to seek God personally for the gospel. Then met Peter and James, the leaders of the church. Fourteen years later, he met a larger group of leaders doing the Lord's work.
Their reputation (position) did not matter to him (Galatians 2:6).
Many apostles of today living under a church system aren't free. Some are bound by the desire for senior positions. Some others fear not offending their seniors with the truth.
Many believers tend to have favourites among ministers because of their reputation as senior leaders. It leads to a dangerous future, spiritually. How? When the minister fails, the weight of fandom burdens and cripples them. The other result is drawing comparisons that lead to division among believers. One more issue that's getting increasingly common is that believers do not want their minister transferred to another place. It affects the minister and the entire flock as they get comfortable with the messages they hear and their relationship with the minister. Apostles go where the Spirit of God leads them. Keeping them around will grieve the Holy Spirit.
God seeks His honour among Israel in Malachi 1:6-8. Imagine momentarily that a loving and all-powerful God has to question His children about the honour He deserves. Terrible, no? Israel favoured earthly leaders by giving them good sacrifices, but when it came to God who took care of their every need, their sacrifices were unworthy and not pleasing to God.
Paul lived freely because of his clear, convicted relationship with Jesus. He did not hesitate to speak the truth, and we see that when he stands up to Peter for showing bias toward the Jewish community.
Dear believers, you and I are nothing without Jesus. We have no reputation other than the grace and glory of Christ working in our lives. Our position does not matter. Only God's position matters. He remains the same yesterday, today, and forever. Look at Jesus, and build your walk in His Word. The time is short.
Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen
