Don’t Be Like The Older Brother

Many old believers have become like the older brother in the story of the prodigal son. What a great story of transformation in the younger brother, but the older brother did not care.

Don't be like the older brother!

The older brother was in the field, working hard, being useful and fruitful for the Father (Like any loyal son should be). He was either too tired or disinterested in music and dance at that point. To make it worse, he learns that all the happiness was because of a disobedient, whoring, and rebellious brother!!

HE NO MORE CARED ABOUT HIS BROTHER.

The news that his brother had returned safe and sound did not please him. His brother was dead to him the moment he left home. He knew his brother did wrong but had no understanding of restoration. He believed that his brother was completely lost and could never change. Often, we think some believers will never change because they've done terrible things. The Father had understanding and joyfully received his son. Often, we think we care about others till we are put to the test. God HOPED in us to shed His precious blood and still be faithful even today though we fail.

THE OLDER BROTHER WAS ANGRY AND DEEPLY BITTER

He could not accept that his younger brother had truly changed. Even his Father's pleading did not move him to show compassion for his brother. The younger was willing to be a servant, an unthinkable humility in who was once an arrogant and foolish boy. God has been PATIENT with us till now and is still doting over us to prepare us for Jesus' appearing.

THE OLDER BROTHER HAD BECOME PROUD OF DOING

...and doing for the Father that he became self-righteous. His doings lacked heart, and he turned hard-hearted and insecure. He lost his joy and vision of why he was doing his Father's business. Let's not do without heart. God loves our doings when we trust in Him in love. Every time we do the will of God, do it in humility.

HE BECAME OVERTLY JUDGEMENTAL AND CONDEMNED his brother.

He accused him of his past evil deeds and could not accept a transformed brother. How often in conservative circles do we hear believers say that he/she will go to hell because of their terrible past deeds? Let's never speak or think that way because God restores ALL who repent.

When we think a person cannot change or is doomed for hell, we forget the power of repentance and God's heart for His children. Watch and pray, for the times ahead will be greatly manipulative. Rinse your spirit by the power of the Holy Spirit. Examine your true state daily to stay refreshed and respond like the Father who loves all.

Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
