Discipline Your Body

Why do you do the things you don't want to do? Paul talks about the reality of the daily battle between the flesh and the spirit. (Romans 6:19-23) (Romans 7:15-25)

The body receives direction from the mind and the heart. If you train your mind and heart, you can discipline your body.

To understand it better, let's look at a few examples in scripture.

HOW TO DISCIPLINE YOUR BODY?

  1. Daniel purposed in his heart to avoid rich food (Daniel 1:8)

  2. Job made a covenant with his eyes not to look on a woman lustfully (Job 31:1)

  3. Joseph ran away from the temptations of fleshly lust. The word of God was rooted in his heart. He was faithful. (Genesis 39:7-9)

  4. Moses left the riches and pleasures of the earth, rejecting a sinful life to suffer with his people under God (Hebrews 11:25). A decision to surrender his life according to God's will.

Paul says he keeps his body in subjection (1 Corinthians 9:26,27). How? He runs the race with purpose or certainty. He has no doubt in his mind about his calling.

Samson kept getting distracted because his heart lusted after women. He knew God had given him strength but chose fleshly pleasures over doing God's will.

As Spirit-baptised believers, we have a high, holy and heavenly calling. We are Kings and Priests, soldiers, servants, sons and daughters, brides, etc in Christ. There is only one way, and God rescued us to pursue the only way, truth and life. Give room for the power of the Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead to work in and through you (Romans 8).

Submit to His will. Jesus is coming soon.

Praise God, and Amen.
