Are You Living Like A New Citizen?

All believers become a new citizen soon as they are saved.

While still in this flesh, we are citizens of heaven on earth. This applies only to believers. How? Only believers are made citizens of heaven saved by grace (Ephesians 2:1-8).

What does the Bible teach us about being a new citizen?

We are to set our affections on things above and not on the earthly matters (Colossians 3:1-3). We are strangers, in the world, but not of it. Yet, we find believers being deceived into wasting time publicly participating in conversations on politics, sports, entertainment, etc. (Ephesians 2:19) (1 Peter 2:11-17)

Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

Ephesians 2:19

Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

1 Peter 2:11

For e.g. voting is a secret ballot. But, when a party wins, some believers celebrate the victory revealing who they voted for. What did God say about politics? He decides who wins. We are to only pray, and do the basics as citizens. Not enter into political wars when God has placed people in the right places to take care of matters.

We are called to do what the unsaved cannot do. Which is? (1 Timothy 2:1-3) Pray, intercede, thanksgiving, and supplication for the leaders and the world around us. We are called to bring Jesus to the world rather than get embroiled in divisive conversations.

How to overcome the temptation to be involved in worldly discussions? Be rooted and grounded in the Word of God. Sow your life in prayers. So you can direct your listeners and unsaved friends to an eternal hope found in Jesus alone.

Live like a new citizen in Christ. Jesus is coming soon, Praise God and Amen!
