Are You Watchful?

He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily - ‭‭Nahum‬ ‭2:1‬

  • Continuing the series on what to do before the enemy attacks, this post focuses on the second point in the verse.
    • Keep the Munition
    • Watch the Way
    • Make thy Loins strong
    • Fortify thy Power

In order to preserve ourselves from the attack of the enemy, firstly, one needs to keep the munition. That means the walls of salvation have to be preserved from being broken.WATCH THE WAYTwo things to be noted here - "Watch" & "The Way". John 14:6 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.Those participating in a race have their eyes fixed on the finish line. If they lose focus they are sure to miss the mark. Similarly our mark is Jesus. We don't have to see how others are running. In no way should our eyes be distracted from the goal. Proverbs 4:25 - Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. This means our eyes need to be watchful always and not be given to sleep."Sleep" refers to both physical and spiritual sleep. Of course we need sleep. But when does it become harmful? When the limit for sleep is crossed. Normally when somebody sleeps a lot we know he/she is discouraged and is not happy with life. They just survive, without any hope.Secondly spiritual sleep refers to a backslidden state. That is being bound with the cares of this life. Nothing is done for the edification of the spirit man. That is why St.Paul warns the church of the Thessalonians - Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:6-7‬ ‭Both ways Jesus is the answer. You know why? Because there is peace and joy in Him and all can find rest to their souls in Christ. There is hope in Jesus. He gives His peace to us that passes all understanding. Let's keep our eyes always fixed on this Jesus. In Mathew 25:5 - While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. "They all" refers to ten virgins who were found sleeping. God did not call us to be one among these ten virgins. We are called to be a chaste virgin . Who is she? A chaste virgin is always watchful. She is careful as to not let her walls get damaged.Watch the Way means fixing our eyes on Jesus and not giving in to sleep/slumber. What do you do being watchful? We need to watch and pray so that we don't enter into temptations - Luke 21:36Remember the enemy uses sleep to work against people of God but Praise God for His watchfulness over us. Thus, our eyes should be always fixed on the Way. The enemy comes to rob when everyone is sleeping. Just as it's for literal robbery same is the case for spiritual robbery as well. It's time to come back to the first love. The way we loved Him when we first met Him. May God help us.Be blessed!
