How To Overcome These Six Fears?

There are times when we are afraid to take the next step. We give in easily to situations and the result is worse than expected.

Have you ever been in such a state? Been hopeless for even a little time? Please read on to learn how to overcome these six fears when we trust in God.

BATTLE

We should not fear seeing the battle/looking at the enemy. Our battle belongs to the Lord, because He is our Jehovah-Nissi (Exodus 17:15,16). He has promised us that when the enemy would come up against us, the Spirit of the Lord would raise up a banner against him (Isaiah 59:19).

STRANGE GODS

(2 Kings 17:35) "With whom the Lord had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods...". Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did not bow down before the image made by the king. They were bold in faith. (Acts 5:40,42) The apostles were beaten and threatened not to preach the name of Jesus, but that did not stop them either as they responded to every leading of the Holy Spirit.

VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH

We should not fear when we go through the Valley of the shadow of death (Psalms 23:4). Why shouldn’t we fear? Because “Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me”. There may be times when no one would understand us, nor take our support. But we should always remember that our loving Shepherd is with us, His Word never fails. Even though we may fall or stumble yet through Him we will rise again (Micah 7:8).

REPROACH OF MEN

(Isaiah 51:7) God's Word warns us not to fear the reproach of men nor be afraid of their reviling. God justifies us and makes us righteous. In Isaiah 41:14, God promises, “Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the Lord, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.” Man can only destroy the body, but God can put both the body and soul into hell (Mathew 10:28).

SEA & STORM

Don’t fear looking at the sea and storm (Mathew 8:26). Even though Jesus was with the disciples in the boat, when the storm and raging winds arose in their journey, they became very afraid. Jesus rebuked their unbelief. Many times we also do the same thing. We look at the situation and become afraid. Look to Jesus. He is the author and finisher of our faith.

EVIL SPIRITS

Don’t be afraid of evil spirits (Mathew 14:25, 26). When Jesus was walking on the water, the disciples saw Jesus and thought he was a spirit and got scared. Later they realised that it was Jesus. No enchantment or divination or any kind of sorcery can work against children of God. No charms or occult objects can affect a practicing Christian.

Therefore dear child of God, we may have to face many fearful situations and circumstances. Our faith will be tested and we may be tossed to and fro like a ship in a stormy high sea. But remember our sail is held by our Jesus who gave His Word that I will never leave you nor forsake you. What He starts in our life, He will finish. So let's hold on to Him till the end to overcome these six fears.

Be blessed!
