5 blessings in Escape to the Mountain! Part-1

You know, the phrase Escape to the Mountain was first used by the 2 Angels to Lot, Abraham’s nephew.

God had sent both the Angels to rescue Lot and his family from the city of Sodom and Gomorrah — before destroying the city with fire and brimstone. The wickedness and exceeding grave sins of the people of Sodom and Gomorrah had reached the Presence of God. He was grieved with the people of Sodom.

And the Lord said, “The outcry [of the sin] of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave. 21 I will go down now, and see whether they have acted [as vilely and wickedly] as the outcry which has come to Me [indicates]; and if not, I will know.”‬. Genesis 18:20,21.

The Angels had to quickly shift Lot’s family before the Lord could pronounce His judgement. Lot and his family were given a few instructions. They were:

  • Escape for thy life
  • Look not behind thee
  • Neither stay thou in all the plain
  • Escape to the mountain

And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. Genesis‬ ‭19:17‬

5 BLESSINGS IN ESCAPE TO THE MOUNTAIN:

1. It is a place of Serving God

And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. Exodus‬ ‭3:12‬

The mountain is also a place where God has a friend to friend conversation with us. When Moses was on Mount Horeb the mountain of God, the Lord spoke to him about returning to Egypt and rescuing His people from bondage. Exodus 3:1,11. When we escape to the mountain, the Lord will call us to serve Him.

2. It is a place of Help

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. Psalms‬ ‭121:1‬. These were the words of David. He further says, My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. Psalms‬ ‭121:2‬.

When we escape to the mountain, or in other words, by running to God, we will definitely be helped by Him. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalms‬ ‭46:1‬. Upon the mount, God sends help from the sanctuary. He strengthens us out of Zion. Psalms 20:2.
