Three enemies against believers;
- Lust of the Flesh
- Lust of the Eyes
- Pride of Life
Lust of the flesh is sinful, physical desires and appetites which include desire for alcohol, gluttony, lust for clothes and make up, uncontrolled sex-appetite, desire to be attractive and beautiful, etc.
Lust of the eyes is the eyes being drawn after worldly things, and the heart following the eyes (Job 31:1,7; Matt 5:28)
“I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?
If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;” Job 31:1, 7
“But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” Matthew 5:28
Pride of Life is being ambitious, desiring to be great in the world in the way of education, position, wealth, fame and name, etc.
The Devil is normalising worldliness, and religious behaviour.
Christians today are difficult to differentiate from worldly people.
Bible says, Love not the world, neither the things of the world.
The mandate is clear, we are to hate this world, hate this life.
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” 1 John 2:15-16
